Boudhanath Stupa

A UNESCO site and one of the largest stupas in Nepal and the world, Boudhanath is the centre of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu. You can enter the stupa and climb up to the white dome for a view of the entire square, or you can visit it at night to see the light of hundreds of candles around it. The stupa is surrounded by numerous cafes, restaurant and traditional shops where you can buy singing bowls, prayer wheels and more.

Durbar Square

The large square is also a UNESCO site and the series of temples and buildings were used by royalty in the past. Durbar Square contains one of the most curious and fascinating attractions of Nepal, which is the Kumari Chok. Kumari is the living Goddess who is worshipped in Nepal and the Kumari Ghar at the Kumari Chowk is the home of the Goddess. She is chosen through an ancient and mystical selection process to become the human incarnation of the Hindu mother goddess, Durga, and you can catch a glimpse of her sometimes during her publlic appearances.

Swayambhunath Temple (Monkey Temple)

Among the oldest religous sites in Nepal, and one of Kathmandu's top attractions, Swayambhunath is a fascinating mix of religion and natural history. The Monkey Temple is, as it is suggested in its nickname, surrounded by monkeys. You can climb the 365 stone steps to the stupa, and look at the numerous statues of various gods.

Garden of Dreams

The Garden of dreams is open to the public and for a fee you can get inside, where you can find a small museum, an amphitheatre, and a cafe. It is a beautiful place of tranquillity, peace and recreation, sheltering you from the noise, the traffic, and the pollution of the Kathmandu city.
