Istanbul Tulip Festival (April-May)
Every spring (April-May), upwards of 30 million tulips bloom in the city and cover any area of open ground in beautiful colours. A traditional symbol of Istanbul, the tulip has been favoured by the Turkish people for centuries. It truly is a sight to behold.
Istanbul International Film Festival
The oldest film festival in Turkey, this event features some of the best international and Turkish films and is linked to Sundance. No matter your film preference, this is sure to please art and culture enthusiasts visiting during the 10-day festival.
Conquest Celebrations (May)
An event that culminates in a light and laser show, Conquest Celebrations commemorates the capture of Constantinople on May 29th 1453. A military march in traditional Ottoman regalia is a high point of the week-long festivities and people throughout the country stop to celebrate. As an important event in the history of the country, the government and the locals take this very seriously and make sure the celebrations impress.
Istanbul International Jazz Festival (June-July)
For the music fans, this three week long event brings in jazz and blues musicians from all around the world, playing concerts all over the city. Previous guests have included Ray Charles and Alicia Keys. Absolutely unmissable if you're visiting in June-July.
